Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Gender equality remains a critical component of sustainable development, influencing social, economic, and political dimensions globally. However, rural areas often face significant challenges in addressing gender disparities due to cultural norms, limited access to education, and restricted exposure to progressive ideas. In Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, television serves as a vital medium for bridging information gaps and challenging traditional gender roles by showcasing narratives that promote equity and inclusion. As Kanu and Okechukwu (2023) argue, television has a unique ability to combine visual storytelling with impactful messages, reaching diverse audiences with relatable content.
